Storage
Storm On Demand® Servers function like a physical dedicated server. Each virtual Storm Server® is persistent and has access to local RAID protected hard drive storage. If your server hardware experiences any sort of problem you can rest assured that your Storm Server® will not disappear.
Storage
Amazon EC2 instances are not persistent. If a host failure occurs or your EC2 server instance is terminated, all local data will be lost.
IP Addresses
Storm On Demand® Servers come with persistent dedicated public IP addresses and private IP addresses. Storm's private networking provides seamless ability to securely connect all your servers together with the click of a button. The bandwidth used on the private network is free, low latency and does not count against your regular bandwidth usage. Additional public IPs are available upon request.
IP Addresses
IP configuration in EC2 is much more difficult. EC2 instances are issued a non-persistent private IP address which must be NATed to a public IP. If your EC2 instance is terminated and new servers are launched, you will be issued a new private IP address. This makes planning IP configuration changes much more complex.  It is also challenging to host multiple SSL sites via SSL because only one NATed IP address is available.
Hybrid Hosting
Storm On Demand® cloud servers can be easily and securely connected with Liquid Web dedicated servers to provide a true hybrid hosting experience that will allow you to leverage the strengths of both types of hosting. For example, Storm's private networking can be used to create a fast secure un-metered link to your dedicated database server for maximum performance.
Hybrid Hosting
Amazon only provides cloud hosting solutions.
Support
Storm® customers can choose from three levels of management: Self Managed, Core Managed and Fully Managed Heroic Support. All levels of management come with free 24x7x365 phone, email and livechat support for the interface, hardware infrastructure and networking infrastructure. That means that if you need help you can call us free of charge 24x7x365.

If you're looking for greater peace of mind, Storm® has two fully managed support options:

Core Managed includes installation & full support of the Liquid Web core software installation package. This includes, core operating system updates, security enhancements and full web server support including Apache(Linux).

Fully Managed (Requires a Control Panel) includes installation & full support of the Liquid Web software installation package including operating system updates, security enhancements and full web server support including Apache(Linux). Fully Managed Heroic Support® provides software hardening to protect the integrity of your server, proactive monitoring & service restoration and a 100% uptime SLA.

Support
Amazon EC2 24x7 support starts at $400 per month. For large EC2 instances over $2,000 per month you pay an additional 20% of your server fee's for support - regardless of the amount of support you actually use!
Management Interface
Storm On Demand® puts all the tools needed to manage your servers at your fingertips. Firewalls, Private Networking, Backups, Restoration, detailed Monitoring, and Scaling can be easily performed from within your browser using the Storm® Dashboard. These features do not require an additional charge except for any hard disk storage that may be used.
Management Interface
Amazon EC2's dashboard and interface are very limited and additional services and features must be purchased ala carte from third party service providers or manually configured yourself. This adds cost and complexity to managing your EC2 servers.
Pricing
Being a second generation cloud architecture we were able to engineer a more efficient architecture that allows us to achieve significant cost savings. This results in Storm Servers® being 20-40% less expensive when compared to comparable but less capable EC2 server configurations.
Pricing
Deploying a comparable Amazon EC2 configuration can cost 20-40% more than Storm On Demand® because of the robust feature set that is included standard with Storm On Demand®
Deployment Time
With Storm On Demand® deploying a ready-to-use server is quick and easy. Simply select one of the many server types available, from 2GB servers all the way up to 48GB servers. Select the software which you require and your server begins provisioning instantly!
Deployment Time
To deploy a new dedicated server requires a significant amount of work and takes a long time. Hardware must be selected, hard drives, memory, and networking equipment must be installed. Then the hardware must be racked and plugged into power and network. Then software installation begins. Operating system must be installed, system upgrades and tweaks must be made. Individual software applications need to be installed, updated and configured.  This entire process can take days or weeks depending on the level of complexity.
Billing and Fees
Storm On Demand® Servers are charged by the hour and you only pay for what you use. This means that servers can be deployed and destroyed within an hour and you will only be charged a few cents for the time the server was active.
Billing and Fees
Deploying a dedicated server typically requires a setup fee or some sort of monthly/yearly contract. This means that if you want to deploy a new server for some quick testing or to accommodate a spike in load, you will be locked into paying for the server for longer than you needed it. This process can be very costly and limiting.
Vertical Scaling
With Storm On Demand® it is easy to vertically scale your server using the Resize function. Resizing your Storm® server allows you to add or remove computing power, memory, & hard drive space in-place with the click of a button. Storm On Demand® will modified to the specifications you requested quickly.
Vertical Scaling
With traditional dedicated hosting adding and removing resources can be very challenging, take a long time and cause downtime while your server is being modified. Upgrading a dedicated server requires building a new server, installing software, updating software, post installation procedures and then the final copy of your old server data to the new server. This process can produce many errors along the way and can take hours or days to complete.
Horizontal Scaling
Scaling your server horizontally by load balancing across multiple web-server front ends can be easily achieved with the Storm® Clone feature. Simply Clone your web server front end to create an identical front end server node that can be used for load balancing. Cloning can also be used to provision a new identical server for testing purposes. Clone a new server and test a code change without affecting your original server.
Horizontal Scaling
Horizontal scaling with a dedicated server requires building a new server, installing all required software and finally copying all customer data to the new hardware. This can take days to accomplish and can be very costly because it requires the user to lease redundant hardware on contract for months or even years.
Hosting Services
Storm On Demand® puts all the tools needed to manage your servers at your fingertips. Firewalls, Private Networking, Backups, Restoration, Monitoring, and Scaling can be easily performed from within your browser using the Storm® Dashboard. These features do not require an additional charge except for any hard disk storage that may be used.
Hosting Services
It can sometimes feel like you get nickel-&-dimed to death with traditional dedicated hosting because every additional service is charged and typically requires a monthly/yearly contract. If you need a new firewall, you'll need to lease a dedicated hardware firewall. If you want to connect your servers together, you'll need to lease a private switch. If you want pro-active service monitoring, you'll need to purchase a third party monitoring tool.
